Vengeance Trilogy

Vengeance Trilogy (Sympathy for Mr. Vegeance/Oldboy/Lady Vengeance)Chan-wook's trilogy of misery by way of vengeance starts off with Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. A tutorial in making your audience feel uncomfortable, Park shows us lovely and sometimes humorous imagery by creating a whole new level of sad. An interesting story that could have been told much more quickly and with fewer endings (yes, too many notes-sorry) left me wanting to see the second movie to see how he'd grown as a filmmaker.

Onto Oldboywhich I found to be much better but just as disturbing. This time I wasn't expecting the twist at the end or the many visual effects in the movie-was that a real squid?!? Again I felt like Park was beating me over the head with every single plot device. I enjoyed Oldboy much more than the previous "episode" and recommend that anyone looking for some great camera work and a solid set twists should check this movie out.

I know I said trilogy but I just couldn't take any more of that feeling. You know, the one you got the first time you saw Seven or Chinatown. Lady Vengeancewill just have to wait until I feel up to the challenge of another Korean art movie.
