This is the reaction I had to I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry.

I really didn't want to watch this movie but it was DNC night so I figured it had to be better than that trash. There are many issues with this movie, not least of which is not enough Nick Swardson. There are some genuinely funny moments in this movie contributed by Rob Schneider but even a team of Asian Hooters girls-yes, they actually did that-can't make this movie "recommendation worthy".

Dedication starts fairly bland but picks up as the story progresses largely in part to the amazing performance of Billy Crudup. In addition to Crudup's performance, Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder) does a solid job as a first time director resulting in a smarter romantic comedy.

I finally had a chance to watch Chocolatand really liked it. While basic, I enjoyed the story and in particular the performances of Alfred Molina and Harrison Pratt. (4*)

Tonight's feature was the 1974 classic, Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry based on the novel "The Chase".

Acting: 70's, Camera: 70's, Lighting/Color: 90's...?!

I'm shocked by how great this movie looks.  It has better lighting than most of the 90's B-Movies (I'm talking to you Carnosaur) and the digital transfer helped a lot.

There was something about the 70's that made people love running from the Man.  From the obligatory bridge jumping to the amazing helicopter work in the finale, this movie doesn't disappoint.

Classic car chases and Peter Fonda's sarcastic delivery make this a must watch for any chase fan.

almost there...

*Ultra Rare Book-Review Alert*

I read Bangkok 8 last week and it was fantastic. I rarely laugh out loud when reading and this book made that happen several times. The main characters are completely different from anything else I've read. Both witty and apparently well researched the book moves with a purpose to it's somewhat disturbing and wonderfully crafted finish. I can't wait to read the other books in this series. (4*)

simpletons & oscars

Saturday started with Tropic Thunder which was hilarious- 4 stars. I did find parts of the movie offensive in the best kind of way, but that's because I'm a recovering child of the '80's. After all, it's nowhere near as offensive as Multiple Maniacs which was made in 1970. Have we really become this sensitive? Why don't people get that they're making fun of actors not simpletons? But the real question is, "When will we see a sequel?"

Early evening brought on work so it was a perfect time for a mindless movie-Mr. Woodcock. Wow, this movie is terrible. How could it be so bad? It stars Seann William Scott, co-stars Billy Bob Thornton, Susan Sarandon and Randy from My Name is Earl. Ah, that's how. I'm left with a, "the lighting was good during that scene with the..." taste in my mouth after watching this drivel. 2 stars for the motor-boating reference.

After returning from Sushi we decided to watch Life is Beautiful which I never got around to seeing until now. Sorry, but when a movie wins an Oscar I usually put it on the wait-10-years-and-see-if-anyone-still-thinks-it's-good list. Somehow a massive error in judgment caused this one to make the list. Dear Roberto Benigni, I'm sorry. The movie is gorgeous from start to finish. I was completely impressed by Benigni's performance, script and direction. Simply stunning and one not to be missed, especially if your knowledge of WWII movies is based on something directed by Steven Spielberg.
