i'm not there

Ugh, poor direction and plot render the decent
acting completely useless.  I'm stunned that this got any recognition at all. Totally disappointing.

I would agree with you if I was taking crazy pills. If you are not a fan of Dylan, and the whole art house/ David Lynch code thing, than I can understand.
For example, you would have to know that Cate Blanchett was wearing a very specific outfit. An outfit that Dylan wore during a press conference after he went electric. Most of her dialogue throughout the movie are direct quotes from that press conference. And when she wasn't quoting that press-conference, she was acting out what Dylan was ranting about during that conference. The real dialogue of the movie was not the words actually spoken, but the visuals queues, or the signs and signifiers found throughout. The movie was made by a huge Dylan fan who kinda forgot that anyone else would be watching it. Todd Haynes counted even the fans of Dylan to know there stuff, and many, especially myself fell short several times. The movie was amazing, but definitely not for everyone. I saw the movie as a huge riddle, and the Dylan himself was the decoder ring. I am Alex Martinez with one man's opinion.
